Satellite imagery for the agro industry

The company Spatial Business Integration (SBI) developed a new service „Site Similarity Certification” (SSC) in a research project which was supported by the European Space Agency (ESA). SSC is meant to prove the comparability of cropping sites by the use of satellite imagery. Thereby, pesticide as well as seed producers can substitute expensive and long lasting field trials and opti-mize their marketing strategy.

SSC merges for the first time the know-how of many years in the registration of pesticides as well as of new crop varieties and the use of satellite imagery as an objective information source. Site characteristics and satellite images are proc-essed and analysed, using state-of-the-art database and software technologies.

The innovative SSC service was funded by the Earth Observation Market De-velopment Actions of ESA and, within a year, brought to readiness for market-ing in collaboration with the company Agricultural Development Consulting (ADC). ADC hereafter supports and accompanies the service with its compre-hensive experience and know-how.

Further Informationen about SSC are available on the SSC microsite.
